November
The psychic night was well attended at the Horseshoe bar with some patrons attire clearly showing they had Halloween parties on the agenda afterwards.

The evening started with a general reading, messages being passed included one to committee member Al McDougall that visiting the gym would be advantageous to him. Many attendees availed themselves of private readings from the psychics and they seemed content with what they were told.

The event raised in excess of £300 for the ladies football team when admission, raffle and a donation from the psychics was totted up.

A repeat event has already been mooted for next year!

Thanks go to the Glasgow Psychic Centre, Horseshoe Bar for making the night possible.

October

Quiz Night Report
The quiz night went ahead a couple of weeks later than originally scheduled due to the funeral of Chic Young being held on the original date. Pat Darlington was once more the quizmaster taxing the brains of the assembled teams.

After several rounds of questions a break for pies and the selling of raffle tickets gave people a few minutes to recharge their grey cells. In the end a team called Beating Chastards (yes you read it correctly!) consisting of your webmaster et al won by answering in excess of three quarters of questions correctly. The event including raffle raised more that £200 for the supporters' bus.

Quiz Night Postponed
Due to the death of Chic Young the supporters' trust quiz night in aid of the supporters' bus has been postponed. Instead of Friday 3rd October it shall be held on Friday 17th October. The venue remains the Horseshoe bar.

September

Events
The trust is holding a quiz night on Friday 3rd October at the Horseshoe bar. Previous quizzes proved popular and provided funds vital to the operation of the trust. This year all money raised from the event will be allocated for the supporters' bus.

Cost is £12 for a team of four, teams of three or five are perfectly acceptable too!

Also in October a psychic night has been arranged for Halloween (Friday 31st October), this too is being held at the Horseshoe bar. There are five psychics attending this event and it's just £5 per head for tickets. Private readings shall also be available on the night. Tickets for this event are essential as the numbers are strictly limited. Money raised on the night will be allocated to the women's team.

Any donations of raffle prizes for either event would be gratefully received!

4th August

Trust Update
Following the retirals from the committee at the A.G.M. the trust is pleased to announce that it's new chairman is school teacher and former club director Eddie Hagerty. Eddie stands down as secretary to the trust, a role picked up by Al McDougall.

The trust committee discussed the supporters bus situation at length tonight and it was decided to continue guaranteeing maximum prices for travel to away matches for the next three matches after which the situation shall be reviewed. As always the bus information is on it's dedicated page here. It was decided to add a central Coatbridge departure point and the St. Andrews Bar on the corner of Baird Street and Sunnyside Road has been chosen.

The next bus is to East Stirlingshire (at Ochilview) on Saturday 9th August. It leaves the St. Andrews Bar at 1.30pm and the Horseshoe Bar at 1.40pm. Cost is £6

Regrettably there shall be no bus to the Cowdenbeath cup match on Tuesday 12th but there shall be one to the same venue for the league match on Saturday 16th leaving St. Andrews Bar at 1pm and the Horseshoe at 1.10pm. Cost is £8.

The trust decided that as Annan Athletic have just joined the league a special price of £10 per person shall apply to that bus on Saturday 30th August, departure time to be confirmed.

The annual quiz night has been pencilled in for Friday 3rd October at the Horseshoe bar and a psychic night has been scheduled for Halloween (31st October) at the same venue.

A poker night sometime in November, comedy night in January, race night in March and sports panel in April are also on the cards for the Horseshoe!

29th May

Supporters' Trust AGM
Tonight saw the 3rd Annual General Meeting of the Albion Rovers Supporters Trust.

Lew McWilliam opened the meeting by thanking the people who had turned up but expressed his disappointment the attendance was so small, whilst admitting that the club and therefore the trust was small also.

His first point was the hope that the trust could better communicate with members, he then announced his retirement and thanked the trust for the engraved quaich which he was presented with at the clubs sportsman's dinner. He went on to thank all who'd helped him especially the committee members.

Secretary Eddie Hagerty then delivered his report touching on such trust activities as funding pre-match cleaning of the interior of the stand, subsidising of the supporters bus and the hugely successful childrens Christmas party. He pointed out the joint purchasing of the Jimmy Lawson memorial plaque with the club itself.

Trust funding of a spreader (useful pitch maintenance equipment) has enabled the club to purchase one in the last few days. A summer clear-up has not been organised thus far partly as the ground is undergoing test boring in preparation for redevelopment. Eddie stated that it was encouraging that three trust members came along to a recent committee meeting and their fresh angles and ideas stimulated much progress. Possible publication of minutes from committee meetings were also mooted.

Trust sponsors, especially the Horseshoe bar were thanked, as were Wee Rover fund members who contribute in excess of £160 each month for trust use.

The election of committee members then took place.

Retiring as chairman of the trust to concentrate on his arduous tasks at Cliftonhill is Lew McWilliam. Also stepping down from the committee were programme editor Bill Walker, club chairman Frank Meade, Colin Millar and Neil Welsh.

The incumbent members, namely Donald Ashwood, David Crichton (membership secretary), Eddie Hagerty (secretary), David Herd (treasurer), John McEwan and Shaun Millar were all re-elected unopposed. Pat Rolink remains a co-opted committee member.

Fresh faces who joined the committee were Patrick McGroarty and Al McDougall.

The position of chairman remains unfilled at present.

Under A.O.C.B Bill Walker suggested a newsletter which could be distributed by email as well as in other ways, this was considered to be a generally good idea.

Eddie Hagerty raised club involvement with woman's football as a positive move and various ideas for trust participation were talked over. David Herd asked if anyone would be interested in attending the Supporters Direct conference on 7th June as no representation was likely otherwise, nobody volunteered.

Lastly future trust events were discussed, a race night, Christmas party and quiz night are planned as they've proved popular previously. Also up for discussion were a poker night, sports panel and more unusually a psychic night pencilled in for Halloween.

As the meeting closed the retiring members of the committee were presented with bottles of wine.

14th March

Race Night
A fun event was enjoyed by a near capacity lounge at Cliftonhill. Several hundred pounds were raised for the trust and £100 was raised for the BBC's Sport Relief which was being held the same day, this was composed of 10% of the funds raised that evening plus some individual donations.

12th March

Race Night Update
A reminder that the supporters' trust dog racing is being held in the lounge at Cliftonhill this Friday (14th March) commencing at 7.30pm. If you don't yet have a ticket don't worry as you can pay on arrival (£2 per head including pie & peas).

Things to remember - bring money to bet on the dogs, bring your own booze as there is no drinks licence! There shall be some soft drinks available but best bring your own to guarantee satisfaction.

February 2008

Dogs Return To Cliftonhill
The supporters' trust have arranged a race night for Friday 14th March to be held in the lounge at Cliftonhill. The ticket price has once more been set at £2 which includes pie and peas. If you'd like to play a more active part in the event dogs are available at £3 each for which you name the greyhound and win a decent prize (most likely booze) if your four legged friend romps home!

Each race has six greyhounds and each race requires a sponsor who will put up the prize for the owner of the dog which wins the race that bears their name. Prizes are expected to be of a decent standard and shall are generally a bottle of spirits or similar. Race cards showing the runners and their sponsors shall of course be issued free of charge. Due to onerous formalities the event shall not have drinks licence this year so bring your favourite tipple with you!

Last years event was a success financially and socially for the trust and indeed some of the lucky punters!

Contact the trust by email or in person at a match (you know who we are by now surely!) to buy tickets and sponsor a horse or race.

10th January 2008

A reminder that all memberships expired at midnight 31st December 2007, so unless you've paid up already by standing order or other means it's time to renew!

2007 saw the trust hold events such as a race night, quiz night and comedy night to have fun and raise cash into the bargain! Funds were spent on a free childrens Christmas party which went down very well with the 40 or so kids who attended, installing a disabled toilet at Cliftonhill and guaranteeing a supporters' bus shall run to away matches at capped prices.

2008 could see Albion Rovers Football Club hold a share issue in which the trust may well decide to participate, this will give trust members a more direct participation in the club even if they themselves cannot or would rather not participate directly. The year could also see the club decide to leave Cliftonhill for a new ground so it's imperative that fans have input into such a momentous decision and the trust is one way in which this can be channeled.

Costs are once again £10 for adults, £5 for senior citizens and children with families coming in at £15.

A special thanks goes to members of the Wee Rovers Fund which brings in a substantial amount each month to fund trust projects. Thanks also to those who've already renewed!
