Albion Rovers 0 v 2 Motherwell
Friendly
10th July 2001

Goals by Kevin Twaddle and Billy Elliot were enough to give a strong 'Well side victory in this, the first of Rovers' pre-season friendlies. Twaddle's 25th minute strike came when a good cross by Elliot was missed by defenders and attackers alike, allowing the big man to come in from the right and smack an angled ball past Chris Fahey in the home goal. Up until this point, Rovers had been the more aggressive outfit with Chris Silvestro and Ryan McMullan coming close and to lose a goal when they did was a bitter blow.

At half time there were wholesale substitutions by Rovers, and it was Motherwell's turn to show a bit of style, with Twaddle and Elliot causing anxiety every time they were on the ball. In the 60th minute the latter scored a fine second, boring in from the left to fire an unstoppable shot past sub 'keeper Scott Shearer in Rovers' goal. The visitors finished strongly and with more composure might easily have doubled their tally.

No doubt the home managerial duo of McVeigh and Smith will take some comfort from their lads' showing - especially in the early stages - in addition to having taken note of some remedial actions to be taken to counteract the odd mistake.
