Attendance : 369

There’s nothing like a cold March night in Elgin for knocking on the head any ideas of good football. At least, that’s what it seemed like as neither Rovers nor their hosts could find the form which secured both outfits splendid results in recent weeks. Nevertheless, as there were plenty of goal attempts from both sides (14 & 15 respectively) it is somewhat surprising that neither managed to find the net.

In the sixth minute, a double-block by Robert Coulter saved Rovers from conceding an early goal. His second intervention actually cleared the ball off the line as the visitors heaved a collective sigh of relief. The next incident of note did not arrive until the 22nd minute when Rovers’ ‘keeper Chris Fahey had to look sharp to palm a long range home effort for a corner.

Ten minutes from the break, Iain Diack got himself into good position but his final shot ballooned high over the crossbar, the Stewart Easton - reinstated to the side after suspension - tried his luck with a long range effort which missed the target.

The second half - eventually proving to be little better than the first - was slow to show any life and it was not until the 56th minute that Elgin threatened with yet another effort from distance, but from which Fahey made a good one-handed save, the ball going for an unproductive corner kick. Three minutes later, a good home move came to naught before Easton passed up a reasonable chance to put Rovers ahead, electing to shoot when a pass to a colleague seemed to be a better option. In the event, his shot went high over the bar.

In 72 minutes, Charlie McLean was yellow-carded following which the remainder of the match petered out in a blaze of mediocrity.
