Although there were only two recognised first-team regulars in this Rovers eleven, the makeshift side of youngsters and a couple of trialists was much too strong for the junior hosts. In pouring rain, Rovers took charge straight from the start and after a few forward forays, the Coatbridge lads went ahead in the 14th minute with a splendid goal from Martin Harty. The youngster collected the ball on the halfway line and after a lung-bursting run upfield, still had enough energy to shoot home at the base of a post. In the 28th minute Kevin Donnelly netted when a corner was only partially cleared and only four minutes later another splendid run and shot from Harty led to number three. Within another few minutes, the total was four when Todd Lumsden carved his way through the home defence to send an excellent chip over the keeper. For the early part of the second period, Rovers lost much of their rhythm and Dunipace pulled one back in 64 minutes. However, Rovers latterly regained the ascendancy and two splendid bullet headers by the trialist No.6 sealed what was a morale-boosting win.
