Forfar No Show
Todays league match against Forfar Athletic was called off by the referee shortly before 3pm as the Forfar team bus had not arrived and was not expected anytime soonafter as they were stuck in roadworks.

The same roadworks were known and indeed delayed Rovers team bus and supporters last Saturday en-route to Arbroath although all arrived there in sufficient time before kick-off. Reports suggest that their bus may not have left before 12.40pm which is certainly not sufficiently early even with normal road conditions to arrive by the 2pm deadline set by the football authorities.

The Angus side shall no doubt face a probe from the SFL league management committee and if found to have failed to fulfill the fixture "without justifiable cause" they will face a fine and/or a points deduction and could be made to compensate Rovers for any expenses reasonably incurred.

Not to let the no show of the opposition dampen Ladies Day too much some dancing girls preceded a Rovers v Rovers match consisting of 10 players per side refereed by gaffer John McCormick. The team in the red and yellow beat the team in blue 4 - 0 with a childrens 10 seconds to score competition at half-time.

Jimmy Lawson Retires!
79 year-old Jimmy Lawson has retired after having been around Cliftonhill for something like 60 years and is here pictured receiving Bell's fan of the month back in December 2002. For many years he was the man who did just about everything but had been taking it a bit more easy in recent years.

Pollok Beat Vers XI
Scottish Cup entrants Pollok beat a Rovers XI 3-2 tonight at Newlandsfield Park. Wright and Hunter scored Rovers goals in a team which was a mixture of signed players and trialists. The game ended in the dark as there were no floodlights (k-o 6pm).

As You Were
The Boxing Day trip to Stranraer is back on now as the change to 13th October has not gone ahead.

(5/9/07)

Fixture Switch
The Boxing Day fixture away to Stranraer has been brought forward to Saturday 13th October with a 1pm kick-off. This Saturday was set aside as Scotland play Ukraine at Hampden with a 3pm kick-off. Although the switch makes sense as most of the players of both sides hail from the Glasgow area and it's a long trip especially on a bank holiday some fans wishing to go to the Scotland Euro qualifier will have to choose between club and country.

Quiz Night
The third annual Albion Rovers Supporters' Trust quiz night has been set for Friday 5th October. The venue shall be the lounge of the Horseshoe Bar and the evening commences at 7.30pm. Cost is just £3 per head and teams consisting of around 3-5 can obtain tickets from the bar or from the trust committee. The capacity of the lounge is around double that of the previous venue inside Cliftonhill. Teams from other clubs (Airdrie have been at the previous two events) may well be in attendance.

Supporters' Bus Deal
The Albion Rovers Supporters Trust recognises that one major reason for low numbers of fans travelling to away games is the high cost and perhaps more so the uncertainty of whether a bus will be running at all and what the cost shall be. Previously it was impossible to say precisely how much a bus would cost until the organiser saw how many turned up on a given Saturday.

Now that uncertainty has been removed with the substantial financial assistance of the supporters trust.

Buses shall run to all away league games (not necessarily to rescheduled matches played midweek) with the exception of Dumbarton which is served by the excellent and reasonably priced rail service direct from Coatbridge and Elgin City which is not cost effective at present although this could be reviewed at a later date.

A page dedicated to the supporters' bus detailing departure times and cost etc. is now available HERE.

The fixed costs shall be as follows :

£5 to East Stirlingshire and Stenhousemuir

£8 to East Fife

£12 to Arbroath, Forfar, Montrose and Stranraer

All buses shall leave from the Horseshoe Bar.

Arrivals and Departures
Before the transfer window we understand that goalkeeper Gary McLenaghan who has appeared as a trialist signed yesterday and that fellow 'keeper Lee Thompson has left the club. In addition Peter Watson has also gone and Inglis from Clyde and Michael McGowan who has been listed as a trialist a couple of times has also signed.

'Shire
McGowan played and McLenaghan was on the bench in the East Stirlingshire match. Jamie McKenzie returned from injury for this game but Roddy hunter is still sidelined. As there is no league business next Saturday Messrs. McCormack and Martin have some extra time to analyse what went wrong and hopefully nurture Hunter back to 1st team action for the trip up to Elgin.
