Rovers face 'Shire
Rovers have been drawn against East Stirlingshire
in the 3rd round of the Scottish Cup to be
played at Cliftonhill on Saturday 24th November. This shall be only the 3rd
Scottish Cup meeting of the 2 clubs and Rovers won both previous encounters (3-0
at Firs Park in January 1977 in the 3rd round and 2-0 at Cliftonhill in February
1953 in the 2nd round).
East Stirlingshire have never beaten Rovers in a cup competition although they currently sit a couple of places above us in the table having gained two points more thus far!

many years in that position, the sometime coach was also briefly caretaker

down due to increasing work and family commitments.
BBC
As the more astute of you will have noticed the BBC had a camera at the
Burntisland cup match on Saturday. Quite when any highlights shall be broadcast
is unclear but keeping an eye on Reporting Scotland on Monday night between 6.30
and 7pm would seem sensible. BBC1 Scotland (channel 971 on Sky if you're not in
Scotland).

A summary of the question and answer session with
the management can be accessed here.
L107
As you may know each Friday between 6pm and 7pm our local radio station L107
broadcast interviews with managers of Lanarkshire teams. This can be heard on
your radio (if local) and live online. If however you're unable to listen at the
time you can hear the only bit Rovers fans will be interested in on this site
(after the event of course). Last Fridays Cowboys comments are available here.

Sponsorship Deal
The club have struck a £30,000 deal with Airdrie
based callcentre firm beCogent which has enabled gaffer John McCormack to give
up his day job with British Gas to work full-time with the local community.

A Tale of Two Penalties
The potential roadwork delays on
the journey to Methil was on many peoples minds prior to kick-off but it was
on-field problems that dominated the day. Firstly Rovers fans joined in the 1
minute celebration in memory of a recently deceased East Fife official then
several minutes after kick-off Rovers fans were unceremoniously moved en-mass to
the far end of the stand. This afforded them a poor view of proceedings at the
other end of the pitch which Rovers were attacking in the opening 45 minutes and
served no useful purpose whatsoever. Why
this was done we were not told, if so important why were fans not
directed to that section on entering (at completely the opposite end of the
ground at the only open turnstiles).
Rovers were awarded a penalty for some infringement which few if anyone other than the referee saw. Roddy Hunter placed it too near McCulloch who stopped it. Ciaran Donnelly was sent off before half-time in an apparent case of mistaken identity when a hand (largely thought to be attached to an East Fife player) touched the ball in Rovers box, this penalty was converted. A blatant hand-ball by a home player was ignored by the referee who awarded a free-kick against Rovers.
It was all downhill from there for a Rovers side featuring no less than three new players. Ally Martin, 'keeper Tony Mitchell who as a youngster was on the books at Cliftonhill and John Gemmell.
After five straight defeats another one on Tuesday at home to Forfar Athletic by two or more clear goals would see Rovers sink to bottom of the table.

CCTV
As promised by Alfred McAlpine after the
spate of vandalism during the close season CCTV has now been installed at
Cliftonhill. Regrettably this was just too late to capture the latest incident
in which the disused starters box formerly used by the greyhound racing
organisation was set on fire. As this box is situated on the disused terracing
at the opposite side of the pitch from the stand the collateral damage was
minimal.
The system is up and running and could well be boosted by additional cameras to provide more detailed coverage of the stadium.

Scottish Cup Draw
The draw for the 2nd round of the Scottish Cup has
given Rovers a home tie to amateur side Burntisland Shipyard. The Fife side play
at Recreation Ground Burntisland and were established in 1919 (the same year
Rovers became a company and moved into Cliftonhill). It was a weekly
subscription from workers in the shipyard that paid to set up the club (and
other recreational and sporting institutions) and they kept going even after the
shipyard itself closed in 1969.
East Fife
Before kick-off on Saturday in Methil there shall be a minutes celebration to
celebrate the life of the Fifers Hon. Vice President Jeek Fleming who passed
away recently.
