Honours Even
Incredibly Albion
Rovers goalless draw at Arbroath today was the first in 153 matches in all
competitions since last recorded on 3rd May 2003 at Peterhead! It was a
difficult match for Rovers who were under the cosh particularly in the first
half, spared by a combination of poor finishing and good defending. They did
however have their moments and in particular ended the game very strongly.
Rovers remain 3rd and Arbroath drop from 4th to 6th in the table.
The free supporters' bus was healthily populated by a travelling contingent of 40, many of whom enjoyed refreshments in Tutties Neuk and/or went shopping for the smokies on arrival at the seaside town.
Joe Savage came off the bench in 64 minutes but didn't trouble Rovers at all really, Jamie Doyle did little to worry visiting fans during the 90 minutes.
As stated on the message board the webmaster was having a day off (albeit still at the game) so he wasn't doing a report. The match report written for the programme may appear on the site later. Meantime click HERE to read another sites version of events!
125th Anniversary Kit
General Manager John Reynolds has issued the following statement regarding next
seasons outfits!
"The Board of Directors have
agreed on a one off new home kit for next season to commemorate the 125th year,
the colours of which shall remain a secret for now as we need League approval
first. If approval is granted the current away strip would remain our 2nd choice
strip with the current home strip becoming our 3rd choice
If all these arrangements work out it would be my intention to try and have the
new colours on one side of the scarf and the existing colours on the other side,
namely reversible for home and away.
Also if approval is granted for the new kit I would seek further approval to
unveil it for the last game of the Season against East Stirling, unless we are
involved in the play offs.
I will not and cannot be bribed into revealing the colours!!"
One obvious interpretation of this is that a complete change of colour is planned and that is likely to be reverting to the clubs original navy blue and white which were changed in 1961. This has already met with opposition from fans who don't wish a change, even for a single season.

Free Bus To Arbroath
Courtesy of Jim Duddy who is a friend of
Pat Rolink the supporters' bus to Gayfield this Saturday shall be free. The 53
seater shall leave from Owens pub at 11.30am sharp. Former Rovers players Jamie
Doyle and Joe Savage have recently signed for the Angus side and are expected to
play, Ian Dobbins also formerly at Cliftonhill may also feature as he returns to
Arbroath after a brief spell abroad.
Player of the Month
The clubs' inaugural player of the month
award, as voted for by fans is Pat Walker. After scoring 8 goals in the last 5 matches
it's not a huge surprise although there were other players high up the voting.
The award shall be presented before the next home match which is against
Stenhousemuir on February 10th.

Plug
Club commercial supremo Pat Rolink has started plugging his gig at the Glasgow
Comedy Festival a full six weeks ahead of the event. As the site receives no
cash for the plug we refuse to mention it's on Friday the 9th of March and that
further details are available HERE.
Speculation
Newspaper speculation is at fever pitch (well, by Rovers standards at least)
about Scott Chaplains supposed imminent exit of Cliftonhill. Clyde with whom the
midfield dynamo trained last week and Hamilton Accies are in the frame to gain
his signature as are allegedly East Fife. As the latter are a part-time side it
seems unlikely that Scott would join them as he has publicly stated he'd like to
go full-time

McBride
It appears that Martin McBride was released by
Rovers before signing for Cowdenbeath therefore no fee was involved.

McBride Departs For
Pastures Blue
Reports form Fife indicate that midfielder Martin
McBride who is perhaps best remembered as tormentor of Partick Thistle
at the start of the season has signed for Cowdenbeath. As yet this is
unconfirmed and it's unclear whether a fee from the 2nd division side was
received by Rovers.

Wow!
Rovers beat Elgin City 6-2 at Cliftonhill
this afternoon. The stats are amazing once more, Rovers climb to
3rd (albeit all teams have games in hand over us) 19 goals in 5 games with Pat
Walker having bagged 8 of them and Scott Chaplain 5. Five wins in a row for the
first time in something like 15 years cannot be bad.
It's certainly a good time to be a Rovers fan!
A match report (a tad briefer than normal) is now online!

Rovers To The Four
The stats say it all, Rovers won 3 - 2 at Links
Park today with the winning being timed at 89 minutes 57 seconds. 4 wins in a
row with Pat Walker having bagged 7 in those matches, 2 of which were today.
Rovers have scored 13 goals while conceding just 3 in those matches.
They've now climbed to joint fourth in the table, fifth on goal difference although they've played more games that everybody else.

Bargain
The club is offering a large discount to anybody
taking out a season ticket. With 8 home matches of the campaign remaining the
price of the ticket is just £50 for adults which equates to £6.25 per game
compared to the £10 payable at the gate.
Purchase of this would also entitle the holder to entry to the free bar for all season ticket holders which shall be on offer after the Elgin City game on the 20th January.

Bus To Montrose £5
Following sponsorship by club commercial supremo
Pat Rolink and ex-pat fan Grant Cullen there shall now be a bus to Montrose this
Saturday leaving at 11.30am from Owen's. The price is fixed at just £5 per head
(no concessions) so no turning up wondering how much it will cost. As always
seats are limited to 24 which is usually sufficient.

Plastic Fantastic
Rovers travelled to Stenhousemuir with a side
affected by virus, 'keeper Jamie Ewings was under the weather so had to watch
from the stand while 19 year-old amateur Lee Thompson made his competitive debut
having signed at the start of the season. This left Rovers with no sub goalie on
the bench but that wasn't to prove a problem as the youngster coped admirably
and his teammates ran riot at Ochilview, Scott Chaplain getting 3 goals and Pat
Walker the other.
The travelling Rovers support (oddly segregated for this match but not the same fixture 3 weeks beforehand) was boosted by a near full bus free of charge to fans courtesy of club commercial supremo Pat Rolink!
Rovers statistics now make impressive reading with Scott Chaplain being the equal 2nd top scorer in the country and the club being the top scorers in the division despite only having leapfrogged Stenhousemuir into 6th position in the table! This is Rovers largest away win since the 8-1 thrashing of East Stirlingshire on 24th April 2004. Scott Chaplains hat-trick was the first by a Rovers man since 10th May 2003 when Jim Mercer bagged 3 against East Stirlingshire in a game which could have gained the Cliftonhill men promotion had scores gone our way.
A full match report shall be on the site later today!

New Chat
We haven't had a fresh Chappie's
Chat for a while so it's a case of new year, new chat. Jim has kindly agreed
that the one on the website shall be a monthly affair.

Free Bus To Stenny
The supporters bus to Stenhousemuir
this Saturday leaves from Owens at 1.30pm and shall be free thanks to commercial
supremo Pat Rolink. Places are limited so it's first come first served (although
regulars could be given priority).
In The Ascendancy
Rovers started 2007 as they had finished 2006
with a win at home against a team in Black & White. This time it was Queen's
Park who lost 2 - 1 at Cliftonhill to propel Rovers within touching distance of
Stenhousemuir in 6th place. Stenhousemuir are of course next Saturdays opponents
and should Rovers win they'll go above the Larbert team on goal difference.
A match report shall appear on the site later!
