Partick
Rovers fielded an odd team which was missing McManus, Yardley and Bradford with Mercer starting on the bench. Mercer replaced Crabbe in 37 minutes but didn't reappear at half-time. Scorer Graeme McCaul who came on as a substitute had already played this afternoon against Hearts and also scored in that match. A poor first half turned into a good second half and a 2-1 scoreline certainly is no disgrace.

A match report with pics will be on the site tomorrow (probably by 5pm).

Hibs
The Rovers v Hibs CIS Cup third-round match will be played at Hamilton’s New Douglas Park on Wednesday September 22. Admission for the game will be £12 for adults and £6 for concessions. We believe the kick-off will be 7.45 pm.

Blue Toon
Rovers lost 1-0 to Peterhead at Cliftonhill and to be honest didn't play well. They hardly had an attempt on goal in the whole 90 minutes, Paul McManus failed once again to make it into the squad die to injury. Jordan Smith limped off with a recurrence of his hamstring injury.

CIS
The draw for the 3rd round of the CIS cup was made live from Falkirk on BBC tonight has given Rovers a home tie against Hibs who won 2-0 in a pre-season match at Cliftonhill. The game will be played on Tuesday 21st or possibly Wednesday 22nd September at a venue yet to be decided but is unlikely to be Cliftonhill.

Rovers last played Hibs in a competitive match in the same competition on 3rd September 1996 when the Premier side won 2-0 at Cliftonhill.

Bus
A couple of Rovers supporters have taken it upon themselves to try to arrange a supporters bus to Montrose on the 4th September. If they can fill a Millers 24 seater it will cost £7.50 per head. This will only happen if those wishing to travel register their interest either on the message board HERE (registered users only) or email your webmaster and I'll pass it on. At the moment the plan is to leave at 10am and stop in Perth en-route, please register your interest even if this is too early and state you'd rather leave later, giving them the chance to alter the plans if necessary.

Bell's Cup
The league have changed the date of the final of this cup from 31st October to 7th November so please alter the dates in your diary accordingly!

Update
The match report and pics from the Brechin game are now on the site.

CIS Draw
The draw for the 3rd round of the CIS cup shall be made live on BBC1 and Radio Scotland at around 5pm this Saturday. As it's a bit tight to get home before then even for the fans who live near Cliftonhill a bumper crowd in the Rovers bar and/or Owen's seems guaranteed!

Cup Triumph
For the third time this season Albion Rovers beat higher division opposition in cup competition. This time it was Brechin City in the CIS cup who lost to Rovers sending us into the last 16 of the competition which is when teams involved in European competition enter the draw.
A game at Parkhead or Ibrox on 21st or 22nd September would bring a much needed cash injection.

As is usual of late it was a late win 10.04pm to be precise! A John Bradford goal took us into the lead but City equalised. Extra-time came and went without further goals and then penalties.

Ritchie of City had his penalty saved by Fahey but Stirling stepped up and battered the underside of the crossbar so is was still level. Johnson of City also had his attempt saved by Fahey, Scott Crabbe put Rovers ahead. Smith leveled the scoreline before Bradford scored to make it 2-1 for Rovers. White missed the target altogether for City and Jordan Smith's kick was saved. Gibson scored for Brechin and McGowan missed the last of the guaranteed 5 a side.

It was now sudden death and Hampshire put City in the lead and it was up to Chris Silvestro to keep Rovers in it. He stepped up and blasted the ball over the crossbar, just as Rovers fans held their heads in their hands referee Mr. Hardie pointed to the spot for Silvio to have another go. 'keeper Nelson having come off his line too early despite specific warnings before the penalties took place. Silvio made no mistake this time. It was King who saw his shot saved by hero of the night Fahey to set up substitute Graeme McLaren to score the winner. A 4-3 win on penalties.

Partick Match
It's a bit early to be thinking about this match but if you're wanting a place on the Rovers supplied bus to Hamilton for the match next Tuesday you need to book your place by contacting John Reynolds at the club (01236 606334). Please don't phone him today (Tuesday) as he's up to his eyes in arranging things for tonight's match etc.

Paul McManus
We understand that Paul McManus is likely to be in the squad for tonight's match against Brechin City although it's unclear whether that means a seat on the bench or a starting place.

In The News
Thumbing through (in a virtual way) The Indian Express as you do we were surprised to see former manager Paul Hetherston getting a mention in an article about the South Korean hockey team at the Olympics! Read it HERE for yourself!

All Square At Hampden
A Rovers team without Mark Peat or Paul McManus in it came away with a point from the National Stadium thanks to a Jered Stirling free-kick deep into injury time. The same man failed to convert a penalty earlier in the match which was marred by poor finishing from Rovers forwards.

A full match report with pics will be on the site later (probably not later than dinnertime Sunday).

(18/8/04)

Brechin City
The CIS cup 2nd round match against Brechin City shall be played next Tuesday (24th) at Cliftonhill with a 7.30pm kick-off. Admission will be the standard Rovers league prices £8 for adults and £4 concessions, season tickets are NOT valid for this match.

NDP For PTFC
The Bell's cup 2nd round match against Partick Thistle will be played at New Douglas Park, Hamilton on 31st August with a 7.30pm kick-off. Admission will be £12 for adults and £6 concessions, season tickets are NOT valid for the game. The club will be laying on buses for those wishing to go.

Injury Update
Chris Fahey played last night at Dumfries because Mark Peat was slightly under the weather due to a cold.
Joe Boyle shall not feature in the squad for some time due to a broken jaw which he obtained while saving a young relative from a fall at a family barbeque. Scott Crabbe has recovered from the leg injury which forced him to miss pre-season, according to manager Kevin McAllister his friend isn't getting a match because he can't put him into the team when they're doing so well without him, players are picked on merit.

Queen's Park
Spiders manager Kenny Brannigan has quit ahead of Rovers visit to Hampden next Saturday after a dug-out bust-up with one of his own players at Elgin and an alleged altercation with a players father.

M&M Win It For Rovers
For the 2nd time in less that 3 weeks Rovers beat 1st division opposition away from home in cup matches. A dodgy penalty gave Queen of the South the lead but superb late strikes by Jim Mercer and Marc McKenzie set up a 2nd round tie with Brechin City at Cliftonhill next Tuesday.

Chris Fahey took the number one jersey from Mark Peat and Paul McManus replaced John Bradford in the starting XI and both were superb throughout the game.

A full match report with a pic or two will be on the site tomorrow.

(14/8/04)

McManus Double Sinks Fifers
Paul McManus came off the bench to a barrage of booing from visiting fans in 76 minutes and by 87 minutes had scored the brace of goals to sink his former employers. A very positive start to the match by Rovers didn't produce any goals but did please the home crowd on a sunny day at Cliftonhill.

A full match report with pics will be on the site later.

Partick Thistle Match
General manager John Reynolds today made the following statement about the venue for the Bell's cup 2nd round venue.

"After consultation with the local Police re the above match it has been decided to seek League approval to move the venue. As we now have a reduced capacity segregation issues were paramount in this decision as this would reduce the attendance even further and lead to other logistical problems.

After much discussion and in view of feelings about moving it to Airdrie it was felt that the best option would be to move the match to Hamilton F.C. The manager was asked for his opinion and had no problems with this as the team enjoyed their friendly match with Hamilton and thought the surface was fine.

Partick Thistle however have intimated that they would prefer not to play on an artificial surface. Should permission be granted for Hamilton the Directors will lay on transport on the night. I would emphasise that this is subject to League approval."

(12/8/04)

CIS Draw
The draw for the second round of the CIS cup was made today and should Rovers overcome Queen of the South next Tuesday they will play 2nd division Brechin City at Cliftonhill on the 24th August in the 2nd round.

Tonight's match has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch. The match has been rearranged for next Tuesday (17th) with a 7.30pm kick-off.

QOS Game In Doubt
Today's match at Dumfries is in doubt due to the torrential rain covering most of Scotland. We understand a decision about whether the game will go ahead will be taken by 3pm and shall let you know once we hear any news.

Back To Earth With A Bump
After last week's away win at Kirkcaldy the Rovers were expected to put up a reasonable show at Gretna but quite simply they didn't! They never really got going against the odds on favourites to win the division and lost 6-0.

A full match report with pics shall be on the site tomorrow.

(4/8/04)

Bell's Cup Draw
Rovers have been drawn at home against Partick Thistle in the 2nd round of the Bell's Cup to be played on Tuesday 31st August. As the capacity of Cliftonhill is just 1249 at present it's unclear whether the match will be played in Coatbridge. The last time the two clubs met in this competition was August 1999 and Rovers won 2-0 at Firhill (although they lost 2-1 at Cliftonhill in the Scottish Cup the same season).
