Albion Rovers 1 v 1 Stranraer
Irn-Bru League 18th March 2008

Attendance : 238

Scorers ~ Albion Rovers : Barr (1). Stranraer : Mitchell (9)

High flying Stranraer and their intrepid fans made the journey north for the second Tuesday in a row, the first having been so controversially postponed just an hour before kick-off.

The game sprung into life when a long John Gemmell throw in arrived in the visitors penalty box and on-loan Bobby Barr latched onto the ball to score his first for the club from 15 yards in just 64 seconds. Pat Walker then had a go and missed the goal by a small margin.

In nine minutes the scores were level once more when Danny Mitchell received a pass three yards from goal from Michael Mullen, the ball was in the back of his net before David Scott could react.

A minute later Mitchell was not so fortunate as he was off balance when he shot with the inevitable outcome. There was a sizable time before anything of note happened which was Steven Noble heading the ball more or less to Scott.

Gemmell having a shot blocked for Rovers and Andy Gibson having his stopped by Scott finished the first period.

Half-Time

Ironically on the very day the newspapers ran with the story of the then Stranraer chairman fiddling the clubs lottery the half-time draw at Cliftonhill was won by Rovers chairman Frank Meade. Naturally he donated the cash back to the club!

This half wasn't full of incident, in 73 minutes a through ball to Mitchell produced a fine point blank save by Scott just six yards from his goal. Pat Walker tried a one - two with Gemmell but didn't get the ball returned as the latter shot straight at Scott Black in the visitors goal.

Gibson crossed for Mitchell to head off target as it happened then Rovers had one last assault on goal when Gemmell put in one of his trademark long throws. It came back to him almost immediately and this time he crossed it for Pat Walker who couldn't quite connect.
