Peterhead went into this match as joint leaders of the division having won all three previous matches although they were humbled in midweek by 6-1 by Falkirk in the same competition in which Rovers beat Brechin on penalties.
5 minutes in Keith Gibson tried his luck from the edge of the box but his shot was caught by 'keeper Fahey. Martin Bavidge of the visitors was next to feature having a shot well wide of the target and then flattening a defender only to be awarded a corner which was subsequently squandered.
A lull in play ended in 21 minutes when Bavidge relieved Jordan Smith of the ball and forced Fahey into a diving save with his edge of the box shot which was turned out for a corner. Fahey once more showed why Mark Peat can't reclaim the no. 1 jersey when an excellent Tully pass put Michie in the clear with only the Cliftonhill stopper to beat. Fahey approached the former Aberdeen striker and the shot rebounded off the 'keepers legs.
The blue toon were still in control and Martin Bavidge provided the ball to Jamie Buchan inside the Rovers box but his shot bounced and was easily caught by Chris Fahey. In 33 minutes Jordan smith limped off with a recurrence of his hamstring injury to be replaced by Andy Paterson. 2 minutes later Rovers were behind when Gibson passed the ball to Scott Robertson and the midfielder who is on loan from Dundee tapped the ball into the net.
With 5 minutes to go till half-time a Jered Stirling free-kick was too high to cause any concern for the visitors. Just after John Bradford and Marc McKenzie combined in a well judged attack but the resulting Bradford shot left much to be desired. Buchan made the final attempt on goal of the first period but his low shot didn't trouble Fahey.
Second Half
Bavidge was again a thorn in Rovers side in the second half having his shot from a tight angle parried by Fahey. The same man had another shot saved before captain Jim Mercer found himself in the clear but no shot was forthcoming.
In 64 minutes Rovers youngster Danny Black pulled off a tackle on Michie which could well have prevented a goal as the frontman was otherwise in the clear.
Rovers had a penalty claim turned down when Craig Campbell looked to have handled in the box but referee Mr. Muir said no. Soon after this Bavidge was in on the Rovers goal evading the defence once more but didn't get past Fahey. The Peterhead frontman claimed foul play and had a brief but heated argument with Fahey which was ended by the referee.
Scott Crabbe replaced Mark Yardley as manager Kevin McAllister tried to spark life into his team. A Jered Stirling free-kick found the head of Jim Mercer and despite looking ideal the header was wide of its target.
Another Stirling free-kick was off target and a Scott Crabbe's flick appeared to take the ball even further from the goal. With 5 minutes remaining John Bradford had his glancing header go past which was the last notable event of the match.
Summary
In stark contrast to last Saturday's league match Rovers hardly got going in this match and could hardly manage any attempts on goal. The team certainly miss the injured Paul McManus and will now have to pick themselves up for the Partick Thistle match.
Black and McKenzie of Rovers were booked.
