So the goal feast was too good to last. Nevertheless, we might have expected enough to have been left in the locker to see off the Blue Brazil.
It was not to be, and the visitors scampered off with the points.
Rovers had much of the early pressure and Captain Jim Mercer saw his low shot saved by visiting keeper Carlin. Jed Stirling was next to have a go but his effort was well over before John McCaig also missed the target from a corner.
It was not until the 13th minute that Craig Winter came close for the visitors but his effort smacked off the front of the crossbar and was cleared. Play immediately moved to the other end where a strong David Farrell free-kick was saved by Andy Carlin.
Following a period of unremarkable play Captain Jim Mercer was slightly hurt as Carlin punched clear then visitor John McKeown was yellow carded for a foul on McAllister.
In 35 minutes a good header by Mark Yardley was well saved by Carlin while a John Fallon attempt nearly counted for Cowdenbeath.
Seconds from the break Dene Shields came within inches of breaking the deadlock but his shot scraped the wrong side of the post.
Back with a bang
Within seconds of the restart Rovers were shocked when substitute Gary Fusco met a Stewart cross to head the visitors into the lead and when Steven Stewart knocked in number two shortly afterwards, Rovers were up against it.
In typical form however, the lads in red and yellow fought back and a Stirling free-kick was just a bit too high. In 55 minutes home keeper Neil Bennett did well to deny David McInally an opportunity before Graeme McCaul drove over at the other end.
Following a number of substitutions and bookings Rovers gained some hope in the 74th minute when replacement Kevin McBride collected a Yardley pass to shoot home from about 15 yards.
Near the end Neil Bennett had a shaky moment with two attackers in his box but the Rovers goal managed to survive intact.
The match had bookings for McKeown and Shand, both of Cowdenbeath for fouls.
